Description: | In the First World War, many hundreds of thousands of soldiers became prisoners of war. Prisoners of war could not keep the money of their country or the state operating the camp, they had to exchange it for camp emergency money issued by the camp, which could only be used in the camp area. Both sides of these special coins of the monarchy had denominations with inscriptions in German and Hungarian. (source: Erem Art Institute certificate) |
