| Description: | Budapest, April 1, 2015 – The Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a commemorative coin for the 90th anniversary of Richard Zsigmondy's (1865-1929) Nobel Prize and the 150th anniversary of his birth. Richárd Zsigmondy is an Austrian-German chemist of Hungarian origin, a defining figure of colloid chemistry. In 1925, he won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for proving the heterogeneous nature of colloidal solutions and for inventing the ultramicroscope. Its discovery proved the existence of nanoparticles, so it can be considered the foundation of today's nanotechnology. The oval coin is the fourth piece in the commemorative coin series featuring Hungarian Nobel laureates started by the Magyar Nemzeti Bank in 2012. |
