Description: | To commemorate the successful launch of the first Hungarian satellite, the MNB issued a HUF 1,000 square cupronickel coin as the 8th member of the Hungarian engineers and inventors series. The name Masat-1 is an acronym formed from the words Hungarian and SATellite. The first Hungarian satellite was launched in France on February 13, 2012, and has been operating reliably ever since. The Hungarian aspect is strengthened by the fact that it was developed by students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics with the involvement and support of the Hungarian Space Research Agency, and that some of its components were manufactured by Hungarian companies. |
