Description: | In honor of the 200th anniversary of the birth of János Irinyi, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank is issuing a HUF 2,000 non-ferrous commemorative coin in proof and BU designs. The special feature of the front of the proof coin is that the flame of the match was created with surface laser processing that provides a rainbow effect. The rainbow effect comes to life by moving the coin in natural light with the changing colors of the rainbow on the surface of the flame. János Irinyi, one of the most talented Hungarian chemists. Today, Irinyi's activities related to matches live on in the public consciousness, since he was the first to patent the noiseless, explosion-proof match; and he was also one of the first domestic distributors of the new approach to chemistry, and also played a significant role in the development of the Hungarian chemical language. As a nobleman with a strong sense of patriotism, he participated in the revolutionary movements, and the wording of the famous 12 points is also attributed to him. He took an active role in the revolution and freedom struggle of 1848-49. János Irinyi appeared as the 11th member of the Hungarian engineers and inventors series. |
