Description: | II. Joseph, the German-Roman Emperor, King of Hungary and Bohemia, the eldest son of Mária Theresa, was a well-intentioned and talented ruler who led the subsequent civil transformation and modernization. In 1780, when he ascended the throne, he waived the coronation and the accompanying oath of his own accord. In the public mind, he is referred to as the "hatted king". His reform efforts met with serious opposition from the nationalities living in the empire. In Hungary, primarily from the ranks of the nobility and bourgeois intellectuals, there were those who expected social progress from the measures of the enlightened, and therefore did not even oppose the introduction of the official and educational language of German. He also had the Hungarian Holy Crown transported to Vienna to confirm his determination to carry out the reforms. The 8 ducat gold coin is a rare and very special piece.
