Revolution War of 1848 Coinage

During the War of Independence in 1848, on the orders of Lajos Kossuth, the Hungarian mint began to produce new coins that harmonized with the usual krajcár-ducat system, but were already decorated with Hungarian inscriptions. Among the coins of 1848 produced at the Nagybánya mint (mint mark: NB) are the copper 1 krajcár, the silver ten and twenty krajcár, and the gold ducat. In 1849, only copper 1 and 3 krajcár coins and silver 6 krajcár coins were produced. After the end of the War of Independence, coins with Hungarian inscriptions were officially withdrawn from circulation, and very few of them remained. The 1 krajcár of 1849 is particularly rare, while the silver 10 krajcár and the gold ducat are still exceptionally rare. The portrait of Ferdinand V is on the 10-20 krajcáros and the ducat, and the Virgin Mary on the other side. The other coins were decorated with the crowned coat of arms.
