Kingdom of Hungar Coinage

The history of the coinage of the Kingdom of Hungary is rich and long.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Habsburg Empire had a significant influence on the Hungarian coinage. Rulers usually minted coins in their own image and with motifs symbolizing their power.

In the 19th century, the Kingdom of Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, and joint coins were minted with the Austrian ruler. The currency of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was the Austrian crown and the Hungarian crown. These crowns represented different values, but were in the hands of the same ruler.

The coinage of the Kingdom of Hungary ceased in the 20th century, when the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy collapsed as a result of the First World War. Since then, Hungary has had its own independent mint, and the Hungarian forint is the country's official currency.
