Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani was the Emir of Qatar from February 22, 1972 to June 27, 1995. 1932. He was born on September 17 in Al Rayyan, Qatar. He was the son of Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Al Thani and the grandson of Emir Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani. In 1957, he was appointed Minister of Education and then Deputy Emir. He was appointed heir to the throne on October 24, 1960, and held the positions of prime minister and finance minister in the 1960s. During his tenure, he made a number of significant changes, including reorganizing the government, limiting the financial privileges of members of the royal family, and appointing a foreign minister and an adviser to manage day-to-day affairs. In 1989 and 1992, he carried out government reshuffles, expanding the number of ministers. During his administration, Qatar's economy developed significantly through the growth of oil and gas production. In the 1980s, several production sharing agreements were signed with foreign oil companies, and in the early 1990s, gas production began in the world's largest contiguous non-associated gas field, the North Field. Sheikh Khalifa had five sons and twelve daughters from four wives. In 1995, his son , Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani removed him from power in a coup. Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani died on October 23, 2016.
