VI. King Mohammed ascended the throne on July 23, 1999, his father, Hassan II. after his death. In the year of his ascension to the throne, there was no minting activity in Morocco. However, in the following year, 2000, the minting of coins with the portrait of the new ruler began. On the 10, 20 and 50 dirham coins, VI. A profile picture of King Mohammed can be seen, and the coat of arms of Morocco is on the reverse. The 100 dirham coins show a full-length portrait of the king and the royal palace on the back. The coins minted in 2000 are still in circulation in Morocco.
