Alfonso XII 's life

Alfonso XII was the only son of Queen Isabella of Spain and Francis of Bourbon who lived to adulthood. He reigned in Spain between 1875 and 1885.

In 1873, his successor, King Amadeo I, abdicated, and the French Republic was proclaimed on the same day. In 1874 Alfonso was elected king. He officially took power in 1875, when he entered Madrid.

Under his rule, the country's economic and social crisis was resolved. Peace was created in the country, which is why his popular name became "the Peacemaker".

Alfonso died in 1885 due to a lung problem without having seen the birth of his son, who later became king under the name Alfonso XIII.
