Pope Francis was elected head of the Catholic Church in 2013, and since then several coins have been issued in his honor. In 2013, the Vatican issued a 2 euro coin with the coat of arms of Pope Francis and the Latin words: FRANCISCUS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS ANNO MMXIII ( Francis, Supreme Bishop in 2013).In 2014, the Vatican issued another €2 coin with a portrait of Pope Francis and the Latin words FRANCISCUS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS ANNO MMXIV (Francis, Supreme Bishop in 2014) ).In 2015, the Vatican issued a 50-euro gold coin on which Pope Francis celebrates the Year of the Holy Family with the faithful in St. Peter's Square. In the circular, the Latin words: FRANCISCUS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS ANNO MMXV (Francis, Supreme Bishop, in 2015). In 2016, the Vatican issued a 10-euro silver coin showing Pope Francis standing in front of the sanctuary in St. Peter's Basilica, and in the circular the Latin words: FRANCISCUS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS ANNO MMXVI (Francis, Supreme Bishop, in 2016). In 2017, the Vatican issued a 5 euro silver coin showing Pope Francis praying for peace with the faithful in St. Peter's Square. In the circular, the Latin words: FRANCISCUS PONTIFEX MAXIMUS ANNO MMXVII (Francis, supreme bishop, in 2017). In 2018, the Vatican issued a 20-euro silver coin on which Pope Francis celebrates the year of St. Martin with the faithful in St. Peter's Square.
