II. Mánuel (Manoel Maria Felipe Carlos Amélio Luís Miguel Rafael Gabriel Gonzaga Francisco de Assis Eugénio de Saxe-Coburgo-Gotha e Bragança) was born on November 15, 1889 in Lisbon. He was the last king of Portugal. His father, King Károly, and his brother, Lajos Fülöp, were assassinated in 1908, so he became the king. However, he could rule for only two years, because in 1910 the republican revolution overthrew his power. He was unable to suppress the revolution, and together with his mother, Queen Mária Amália, fled to England, where they lived for a while. II. On September 4, 1913, Mánuel married his second cousin, Princess Augusta Victoria of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, the daughter of Prince William. Although he had no children, he did not abdicate the Portuguese throne for a long time. However, Portugal has been a republic since 1910, so he could no longer inherit the throne either.
