Muhammad VI Coinage

VI. During the reign of Muhammad Bey (1922-1929), the coinage of Tunisia was under the influence of the French protectorate. The French franc was the official currency, but the Tunisian authorities also minted coins of smaller denominations to serve the local markets. Coins: 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 francs, minted from aluminum, the same size and weight as the French franc. On the obverse of the coins, VI. Muhammad Bey's portrait and the Tunisian coat of arms were visible on the back. 50 franc coins, minted in silver, weighing 25 grams. On the obverse of the coins, VI. Muhammad Bey's portrait and the Tunisian coat of arms were visible on the back. Banknotes: 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 franc banknotes. The banknotes were issued by the Banque de l'Algérie, but were inscribed in both Arabic and French. VI on the front of the banknotes. Muhammad Bey's portrait, and Tunisian landscapes or buildings were visible on the back.VI. A commemorative coin of 50 francs was minted in 1932 on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Muhammad Bey's accession to the throne. A commemorative coin of 5 francs was minted in 1928 on the occasion of the exhibition of Tunisian industry and agriculture. Tunisian coins and banknotes are still collectors' items today.
