Description: | Ferdinand I (Ferdinánd Habsburg) was a member of the Austrian House of Habsburg and from 1556 he was also the Holy Roman Emperor. He lived from 1526 to 1564, and many coins were issued during his reign, including silver denarii. The silver denarius issued by Ferdinand I are usually 17-20 mm in diameter and weigh around 0.6-1.5 grams. The coins bear a portrait of the ruler on one side and a coat of arms, crown or mint location and date on the other. Silver denarii issued by Ferdinand I are now considered antiques and are popular with collectors, especially those that have survived in good condition over the centuries. These coins reveal a lot about the economic life of the time, as well as the financial system and minting technology of the time. |
