Sen Cung I (宋神宗, Shenzong) ruled as Emperor of China from 1067 to 1085. Born on May 25, 1048, he ascended the throne as the son of Emperor Jing Cung after his father's death. During his reign, he implemented radical economic and social reforms initiated by Chancellor Wang Ansih. These reforms included the provision of low-interest state loans to peasants, the resurvey of land to eliminate inequities, and measures to increase trade and military power.I. During the reign of Sen Cung, they tried to increase the state's income through trade: in one province, the manufactured goods were bought up, and in the other, they were sold1. In order to increase military strength, the emperor and Wang made it mandatory for all villages to set up defense groups. The state purchased horses and distributed them among peasant families in northern China, who in return agreed that a member of the family would serve in the cavalry in case of war. Although Sen Cung I continued to implement reforms, Wang Ansih's growing number of enemies in 1076 he was forced to resign from his post. The large-scale program failed after the death of Sen Cung I due to the misunderstanding of the bureaucrats. Many famous scientists and artists worked under the emperor's rule, such as Ouyang Hsiu and Su Tung-po. After 18 years of rule, Sen Cung I died in 1085 at the age of 36. He was succeeded on the throne by his son Tse Cung.
