Description: | The Rákoskeresztúr Újköztemető National Memorial is the 3rd piece of the series. Plots 298, 300 and 301 of the Rákoskeresztúr Újköztemető, collectively known as the National Mourning Park, became a national memorial site in 2012. Plots 298, 300 and 301 are the "cemetery memorial" of Hungarian history after 1945, where the remains of politicians, soldiers, public figures, commoners, and students who were convicted and executed on the basis of false accusations in illegal trials after 1945 and 1956 are laid to rest. . Before 1990, the memorial site was the site of silent demonstrations against the existing power, recalling the memory of 1956, nowadays it is one of the most important symbolic spaces of the country's post-World War II history, the scene of national memory and mourning, and a reminder of the 1956 revolution and freedom struggle. Among the three parcels, 301 has become the most iconic, the emblematic memorial site of the 56 Revolution. The largest group of graves here are the resting places of the victims of the reprisals after 1956. The plot's 301 individually carved headstones were replaced in 1989. Source: www.mnb.hu |
