Description: The commemorative coin issued in honor of the national memorial sites of Esztergom, Várhegy and Víziváros is the legal tender of our country, but it is not for circulation purposes. Its primary role is to draw attention to one of the most important memorials in the history of Hungarian statehood and Christianity in Hungary. The prominent role of Esztergom was established by Prince Géza when he made his seat here. His first-born son was born here, and he was crowned king here under the name István (Saint István I). Saint István founded 10 Hungarian bishoprics, of which he placed the Archbishop of Esztergom at the head from the beginning. Esztergom is the XIII. It was the center of Hungarian royal power until the middle of the 19th century. The Spaniards had to deliver the tax to Esztergom every year, and at the same time, the country's only mint operated here. The city also hosted several royal meetings. II. King Géza VII in 1147. King Louis III of France And in 1189, Béla received the German-Roman Emperor Frederick I (Barbarossa) here. The former royal palace is now a museum. After the Tatar invasion, the city permanently lost its character as a government center, but to this day it plays the leading role of the Hungarian Catholic Church. The Esztergom Basilica, the largest and first church in the country, stands on the former site of the medieval cathedral. Directly below the royal castle, in the strip bordered by Várhegy, the Little Danube and the Danube, lies the area that was called the "Archbishop's Town" in the Middle Ages, and today the Water Town. The Primate's Palace is located here and the archdiocese's collections are located here: the Cathedral Library, the Primate's Archives, the Archbishop Simor Library and the Christian Museum. Together with the other archbishop's collections in the castle quarter - the Cathedral Treasury, the Main Chapter Archives, the Library of the Faculty of Religion - they preserve a significant part of the Hungarian cultural heritage.
