Rama IX Coinage

IX. Rama, whose full name is Phrabat Somdet Phra Paraminthara Maha Bhumibol Adulyadej, was the ninth king of the Chakri dynasty ruling Thailand, reigning from 1946 to 2016, for seventy years. At the time of his death, he was the world's longest-serving head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in Thai history. IX. Under King Rama, several types of coinage were used in Thailand. The most common coins were 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 satang and 1, 2, 5 and 10 baht. The material of coins has changed over time, including copper, nickel, aluminum, bronze, iron, silver and gold. The coins usually featured the king's portrait, coat of arms, name, and regnal year on one side, and Thai national symbols such as the garuda, Thai lion, Thai elephant, Thai lotus flower, or Thai temples on the other side.
