He was the fourth Emir of Kuwait, who took over the country in 1965 from his half-brother, III. From Abdullah. During his reign, Kuwait's economy and infrastructure developed significantly, thanks to oil revenues and modernization programs. During his minting, he issued coins of various denominations and materials, all bearing the Kuwaiti coat of arms and Arabic numerals. The most common coins are 1, 5 , 10, 20, 50 and 100 fils, which were made of nickel-brass, copper or aluminium. The obverse of the coins featured the Kuwaiti inscription (الكُوَيت) and denomination (فلس), and the reverse the Islamic calendar and the Christian calendar. The rim of the coins was smooth or ribbed, depending on the denomination of the coin.
