The coinage of V. Mohammed from 1927 to 1961 was one of the most significant periods in Moroccan coinage history. The Moroccan mint minted many new types of coins that represented a new style and design. When the Sultan ascended the throne in 1927, the Moroccan mint still followed the traditions of the Ottoman Empire. However, Mohammed wanted to modernize the Moroccan state, and this also affected the mint. In 1928, he minted new coins bearing his own image and coat of arms.
