Elizabeth I 's life

Elizabeth was born as a member of the Romanov dynasty in 1709. She was the second surviving daughter of Tsar Peter I of Russia and Tsarina Catherine I. Elizabeth is considered one of the most important rulers of her time. During her reign, the Russians took part in the War of the Austrian Succession and the Seven Years' War. She helped increase the military power of the Russian Empire and strongly supported Russian science and art. She founded the Moscow State University and also had palaces built. The public had a good opinion of her, since she did not execute a single person during her reign. Among her reforms, she abolished the head tax and instead raised the duty on products imported into the country, which helped to boost trade. The reforms primarily favored the nobility, but serfdom also strengthened. Her private life was surrounded by many balls. She liked fashion and usually organized costume balls. In the last part of her life, she had three strokes, the last one in 1762, and she died. Her successor would have been Peter III, but his wife abdicated him after a few months of reign. Catherine II became Empress of Russia.
