Description: | The OMSZ was founded in 1870 to explore Hungary's climatic conditions, organize and evaluate meteorological measurements. Currently, it carries out activities covering the entire territory of our country and is responsible for the performance of state tasks related to weather, climate and air quality. Thanks to the professional experience and tradition that goes back to 150 years, today it is an institution of outstanding quality and strategic importance in Central Europe. The MNB National Meteorological Service is issuing a silver commemorative coin with a nominal value of HUF 10,000 and a non-ferrous metal version with a nominal value of HUF 2,000 on the 150th anniversary of the founding of the National Weather Service. The primary role of the commemorative coins is to draw attention to the anniversary of our country's scientific history and to recognize the high-quality forecasting, research and educational activities of the Service. The use of commemorative coins in everyday payment transactions should be avoided. The nominal value on them serves to preserve the collector's value of these coins. The silver and non-ferrous versions are presented with the same coin image, they differ only in their denomination. The commemorative coins were designed by the sculptor Mercédesz Molnár. On the obverse side of the commemorative coins, a little to the left of the middle field, you can see a schematic representation of a cyclone based on the logo of the National Meteorological Service, whose interpretation is aided by the inscription OMSZ on the right below. On the obverse, there are the mandatory formalities of the commemorative coins, the inscription "HUNGARY" above, in two horizontal lines below, the denomination "2000" and the inscription "FORINT" arranged on the right, below, on the left, in two horizontal lines "BP." mint mark and the year of minting "2020". On the thematic side of the commemorative coins, a representation of the Balaton landscape can be seen, supplemented by a synoptic map representation of the cold and warm fronts of the front system associated with a weather cyclone. The motif on the back also refers to the fact that OMSZ operates a storm warning system at the country's largest lakes. Inserted into the representation, below, on the right, you can see the master mark of the sculptor Mercédesz Molnár, who designed the commemorative coins. The central motif is framed by the inscription "National Meteorological Service" at the top and "Established: 1870" at the bottom. |
